You will feel like yourself again

Therapy for Perinatal Depression & Anxiety in Evanston, IL

In-person support for women in Chicago’s North Shore

This isn’t how becoming a mother is supposed to feel.

What if I’m not cut out to do this?

Everyone tells you that you fall in love with your baby immediately. It was going to be just like in the movies and TV shows. Instead, it's been sadness, isolation, anxiety bordering on panic, and so much guilt. You're scared and not sure you know what you're doing. You've been going through the motions but life has become constant worry about everything having to do with your baby.

When is it going to get easier? When will you feel like a natural at this?

Perhaps you've voiced these thoughts with loved ones to gain some clarity and reassurance. Or perhaps you're so scared of how you'll be perceived that you've kept them to yourself. But they're eating you up inside. You don't know what to do or where to go with these fears.

Sound like you?

Struggling with intense disconnection

Tired of feeling broken

Ready to stop overthinking everything

Wishing that you could just be present and enjoying this time

Here’s what we’ll do together

Therapy can help you recognize yourself again.

Just by researching what you’re experiencing and looking into therapy, you’ve already taken the first step towards becoming that mom you envisioned you’d be. Please know that and give yourself credit.

You are not the only one who has these worries, these feelings when becoming a mom. This happens to other women too and things can change.

When you learn to discern the anxious/depressed thinking from Your Self’s thinking, you can more easily challenge it and take the steps to shift your perspective and feel confident once more.

You haven’t lost Your Self forever. Little by little, you will find your way back to that resourceful, brave, and determined version of yourself.

At the end of the day, I want you to know:

These thoughts and feelings don't have to control you. You can come out of this fog and feel competent and connected.

What we’ll work on

  • Your uncertainty is no longer paralyzing.

Change is possible.

You deserve support too.

Questions?

FAQs

  • 1 out of every 5-7 women can experience symptoms of perinatal or postpartum anxiety and/or depression. Other perinatal mood disorders are OCD and psychosis.

  • Everyone is different so there isn’t a blanket answer. Some women may start to feel better within weeks and others may still be experiencing symptoms for months or years. The best chance a mother has to address her symptoms is to let loved ones know what she’s experiencing and to seek support.

  • The word perinatal refers to the time during pregnancy and up to a year after childbirth. Postpartum typically refers to only the period after childbirth. Many women begin to experience symptoms of depression/anxiety during pregnancy, which is why I prefer using the term perinatal.
